Online Dating Profile Tip #6: Usernames
Picking a username is tricky. It’s good to try and describe yourself and most people will also drop in a first name, nickname or year of birth if they’re struggling for something unique. Be careful not to reveal too much in a username and it’s also a good idea to use something different to what you have on social media sites if you want to keep your love life a little separate.
Whatever you do, don’t use something sexual. It’s just not cool and isn’t going to get you anywhere fast.
Online Dating Profile Tip #5: Third Person
If you’re not good at writing about yourself, then get a friend involved. They probably know you from the outside in a different way to how you think of yourself. If you’re stuck for what to say, then let them loose on your profile. There are even sites out there now dedicated to introducing friends to eachother. You must have at least one friend who says they can’t understand why you’re still single; that’s the kind of person you want to be selling your personality online. Ask friends for advice on what your best features are and incorporate that into your profile.
Online Dating Profile Tip #4: Expectations
Listing what you’re looking for from a dating website is a good thing. If you’re looking to be serious, then make sure your profile shows that off. There’s no point in attracting someone not on the same level as you. If you’re wanting NSA fun then put that too, but don’t expect there not to be at least a few people put off by that. Oh well, they weren’t going to be what you wanted anyway.
Don’t waste people’s time – make sure you’re being upfront in what you say.
Online Dating Profile Tip #3: It’s OK to Dream
Girls especially like to plan their futures. Weddings, children, houses, the lot. It’s OK to talk about your dreams and ambitions on your profile. In fact it shows you actually want to do something with your life and you haven’t just settled for what you have now. You never know, you may find someone willing to share that dream with you and make it a reality!
Online Dating Profile Tip #2: Be Honest
C’mon (guys, I’m mainly looking at you)… Be honest. You’ll only get found out eventually.
There’s no point in lying about interests as if a girl notices one in common they WILL ask about it and they WILL work out you don’t know what they’re on about. If you don’t like dancing, don’t mention it, or she’ll be offended when you end up in a club somewhere and won’t dance with her. If you’re dishonest, you may widen your net, sure. But you’ll only be attracting the wrong kind of person and waste both of your time.
As with everything else I’ve said, being honest upfront is the only way to be sure the person you’re meeting is right for you. Let’s face it, you’d be narked if they lied to you about a particular feature or interest that got you really excited about them, right?
